HILLSIDE TO THE HOLLOW RESERVE MANAGEMENT MOVING FORWARD
Friday, February 19, 2016
This spring, the City of Boise will be improving trail opportunities and revegetating non-system routes in the Hillside to the Hollow Reserve in 2016.
“The 2014 Hillside to Hollow Reserve Master Plan was a collaborative effort between the City, the Land Trust of the Treasure Valley, and the community,” said Sara Arkle, with the City Parks and Recreation Department.
“Together we identified the trails that needed improvement, those that would be closed to promote the native plant communities, and trails slated for construction,” she added.
In 2015, trails in the Reserve received formal names through a community voting opportunity. Directional signage was installed, maintenance performed on system trails, and the Hippie Shake Trail #50 was constructed in partnership with Land Trust of the Treasure Valley, REI volunteers and Ridge to Rivers.
Plans for 2016 include construction of the Full Sail Trail #56 from Hillside Park to Ussery Gulch, re-alignment and improvement of the Robert Smylie Trail #54, re-alignment of the short section of trail connecting Harrison Hollow Trail #57 to Who Now Loop #51, and initiation of revegetation efforts on the routes not identified for system management in the 2014 Master Plan. These efforts will begin as weather allows early this spring.
